Dennis Carley of U Fly It, manufacturer of the Aerolite 103 was at Sun N Fun 2017 with his fun flying part 103 legal ultralight aircraft, but he had something new on display and mounted on his aircraft, the Magnum Ballistic Parachute manufactured by Stratos in the Czech Republic, who have been producing aircraft ballistic recovery parachute systems for over 26 years.

Dennis acquired the distribution rights in January 2017. At Sun N Fun he was displaying three versions or the parachute system a soft pack, a cannister or a VLS style system.

All three systems can be fitted with a number of parachute sizes, to accomodate the weight of the aircraft it is being fitted to. The lightest and least expensive system which is what Dennis uses on the Aerolite 103 is the Softpack which starts at a gross weight of 660 lbs.

Chutes are available for all three models starting and 660 lbs and going up to 3900 lbs.

The cannister style, which means the chute is compressed into a round metal cannister. In this system the rocket motor is mounted to the outside of the cannister. The unit is fitted with a base plate that allows for a number of various mouting attachments to be installed for different aircraft configurations.

The third system is the VLS or vertical launch system. This parachute is generally mounted on the top of a wing, with the rocket firing up and away from the aircraft. The VLS and cannister systems are completely sealed to prevent rain etc. from getting at the chute and bridle system.

Inspection times for the canopies on all three models is six years, with 6 year inspection for the rocket and a 12 year replacement of the rocket. Dennis offers a "loaner" canopy for the systems while they are being repacked and inspected.

Dennis has a parachutes in stock for many of the best selling aircraft, with a custom order taking between four and six weeks. To order a parachute Dennis needs the maximum speed of the craft, maximum weight and the type of airframe, such as wood, metal, composite.

Magnum Ballist Parachutes are available for ultralight, experimental and light sport aircraft. In the light sport category the parachutes meet the ASTM standard but have to be approved the the aircraft manufacturer for installation on their aircraft.

Help SUPPORT The Light Sport And Ultralight Flyer Web Video Magazine So We Can Continue To Bring You These Videos!

Ultralight Aircraft Magazine - Welcome to the Ultralight Aircraft News our goal is to cover as many aircraft expositions that host aircraft described as ultralight aircraft, light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt aircraft that fit into the definition of ultralight aircraft in Canada or light sport aircraft, or experimental amateurbuilt light sport aircraft in the United States.

These include three axis control aircraft, weight shift control aircraft, more commonly known as trikes, powered parachutes, helicopters, gyrocopters and powered para-gliders that meet the light sport or ultralight aircraft definition.

Airshows and aircraft expositions that we cover include, the Deland Sport Aviation Showcase, U.S. Sport Aviation Expo, Deland Sport Aviation Showcase, E.A.A.'s Sun N Fun, E.A.A.'s Airventure, the Midwest LSA Show, Copperstate, UPAC Convention and Aero Friedrichshafen in Germany. We try to regularly attend regional shows like the Arlington Fly-In, and Rocky Mountain Fly-In.

Your subscription includes Rotax 582, and HKS aircraft engine rebuilding videos, which are EACH nearly 2 hours in length! PLUS hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of web video interviews with designers, manufactures, builders, and suppliers of ultralight light and light sport aircraft parts and accessories.
